INSURE® ONE™

Information for Patients

InSure® ONE™ is easy.
InSure® ONE™ is the only Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) that is performed using toilet water collected from a single bowel movement. (1)

You only need to gently brush the surface of the stool in water for about 5 seconds with the convenient, long-handled blue brush, and then simply collect the toilet water on the test card.

No other FIT has this convenient, water-based collection method – if you have used a paintbrush, you can use InSure® ONE™. (1)

InSure® ONE™ test samples are collected in the privacy of your home, then submitted to your doctor’s office or laboratory for analysis.

There are no diet or medication restrictions associated with using InSure® ONE™.

The InSure® ONE™ test is available from your doctor. The Patient Collection Kit contains everything you need to collect at home and submit for analysis.

Answers to Common Questions
QUESTIONS REGARDING TEST REQUISITION AND INSURANCE
The Physician Requisition portion of my Reply Form is not filled out. What do I do?
If you have a copy of the Physician Requisition (also called a prescription or lab order), you may attach that to the InSure® ONE™ test Reply Form. If you don’t have a copy, you will need to contact your physician to obtain their Client ID# (or Quest Account #), and the diagnosis code. Your physician’s signature is not required unless you are a Medicaid patient within NJ, NY, PA, or MA.

Will my insurance company pay for the InSure® ONE™ test?
The InSure® ONE™ test is covered by most insurance companies.  If you would like to call your insurance company to verify their coverage, you would give them our test code “CPT 82274” and the “InSure Fecal Immunochemical Test.”

My Medicare number doesn't fit onto the Reply Form. What do I do?
If your primary coverage is traditional Medicare (not Medicare Advantage), complete section 1 ONLY. If you have received a new Medicare Beneficiary Identification Number (MBI), this will be 11 characters (alphanumeric) rather than the older 9-digit format, fill in the 11-character MBI below the area indicated for your Medicare number in section 1. If you still have the 9-digit format, fill in the spaces as indicated in section 1.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan (a Medicare plan administered by a commercial insurer, such as Blue Cross, United or other health plans) fill out section 3 ONLY.
QUESTIONS REGARDING COLLECTING YOUR SAMPLE
Do water softeners interfere with the test? Can I use the test if I use well water?
Water softeners do not interfere with the performance of InSure® ONE™.

Yes. You can use the InSure® ONE™ test if your toilet uses well water.

A rust ring is visible in the toilet bowl. Can I use the test?
No. If the rust cannot be removed, the test must be performed in an alternate toilet without a rust ring.

Do toilet bowl deodorizers/fresheners/cleaners interfere with the test?
Yes, remove any deodorizers/fresheners/cleaners from the toilet bowl and flush the toilet twice before performing the test.

Will I need to change my diet or medication routine to use the InSure® ONE™ test?
No. You do not need to change your diet or medications in any way before using the test.
There are no dietary changes or drug restrictions associated with using the InSure® ONE™ test.

Should I use the InSure® ONE™ test if I have hemorrhoids that are bleeding?
No, InSure® ONE™ test detects blood in and around the stool, therefore active bleeding from hemorrhoids could produce a false-positive result.

Can I do the InSure® ONE™ test if I am menstruating?
No. You should not perform the test three days before, during, or three days after your menstrual period. Because the InSure® ONE™ test detects blood in and around the stool, active bleeding from menstruation could produce a false-positive result.

Can I do the InSure® ONE™ test if someone in my house is menstruating?
You can perform the test if someone else in the house is menstruating. Simply flush the toilet once before beginning your sample collection.

Will I have to handle my stool when using the InSure® ONE™ screening test?
No. InSure® ONE™ is an easy fecal immunochemical test (FIT) that only requires you to take a sample of toilet water.
Using the long-handled blue brush included in your collection kit, gently brush the surface of the stool in water for about 5 seconds and then collect the toilet water by dabbing water only onto the test card sample pad.  Repeat this action for the second sample pad.
Sample collection is completed in minutes and does not require the user to collect, handle or smear fecal matter.

Can a sample be taken from a stool not in water, or from used toilet paper?
No. InSure® ONE™ has been designed for collecting a sample of water surrounding the stool.
QUESTIONS ABOUT KIT COMPONENTS
What are the blue bags for?
The blue plastic bags have been supplied for the disposal of the toilet paper used at the time of your bowel movement. You cannot place anything in the toilet before the collection of the InSure® ONE™ toilet water sample. The long-handled blue brush can be placed in the bag once the test collection is complete.

How is the flap on the test card closed once the sample has been applied?
A removable label located on the instructions or reply form provided with the collection kit is used to seal the flap on the test card.
Remember to record your name, date of birth, and date the sample was collected on the label.

I lost my envelope, where do I mail my test?
Give us a call at 1-800-531-3681.  We can help determine where you should mail your completed test.
QUESTIONS ABOUT RESULTS
I haven’t received my results, what do I do?
You can only get your results from your physician. You must contact your physician to receive your results or for any questions related to your results.

Does a positive result mean I have cancer?
A positive test only indicates that blood was detected in the sample collected and this may indicate lower gastrointestinal bleeding associated with disorders such as diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, polyps, colorectal cancers or large adenomas that bleed. If you have a positive result, we strongly urge you to discuss the findings with your physician to establish the source of the bleeding and determine treatment, if appropriate.  In general, a further test of the colon and rectum (such as a colonoscopy) may be required.

Does InSure® ONE™ replace the need for a physical examination?
This is not a replacement for a regular physical examination by your doctor.
